Man From Johor Bharu (CsH)

Mahzan sent me this photo of Queen Beatrix's palace (so he was told ) this morning.  He was at The Hague attending a medical workshop.   He added  "luckily she wasn't home, otherwise I'll tell her our Sultan Johor's house is bigger than hers".  na, na , na , na na!!!!  Typical rakyat  Johor and typical of my wacky nephew.

With  this photo of the Palace of Justice behind him he imagined all the people he would like to see put on trial here.  But 'Zan, you and I know it will not include Blair, Bush and the leaders of the Israeli regime.  They're the wrong political colour.  By the way, UK, the EC and USA are thinking of packing off Muammar Gaddafi  to that Court because he poses a threat to his people and 'their oil'.

I see you're "taking the earliest flight out" to go home - to Sabrina, Nadia, Nabilla and Adam.

Can't say I blame you.  I can imagine you as this "Man from Houston", sung by Mark Lindsay, one of arwah Ucu's favourite singers.

Aaaaaah this song's making me SAD.  No, it means Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Still, I wonder what happened to all those years.

Have a safe journey home.  I know you will be the "first man off the plane".

And  "oooh, they love you".

Back in 1984, I went to Amsterdam on a short break from my "stagiere in Elf Aquitaine, Pau,France" and reached the capital on Queen's birthday celebration. Found the celebration too noisy and many a youth 'stoned' with marijuana..
I did not get to see Queen Beatrix's palace though.
A nice post on your nephew..

Thank you Wan Sharif. That's very kind of you.

I've never been to any part of Holland. Somehow the Benelux countries never seemed attractive to me.

"Many a youth 'stoned' with marijuana." I visualize them with clumps of 'grass' thrown at them!! That's the beauty of the English language.

Your French must be good.

And by the way, my father recalled how as a pre-teenager (mid-1920s), he smoked ganja! That didn't turn him into a junkie.

Ohhh i really love that voice, sorry Mahzan not yours but Mark Lindsay's.

First heard him at the Boon Lay flat singing "And the grass won't pay no mind".

Just when you think he has done vanished into the mists of memory ML turns up in the most unlikely places.

I once found a long-sought collection of his songs in a little shop hidden away in some back street in K Terengganu during a rare visit to that part of the world.

His evocative Sunday AM Coming Down is typical, I guess, of what many feel on Sundays, to wit,

I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday,
That makes a body feel alone.

And,
...fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.

And,
...it echoed through the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

And, don't we all have those kinda dreams...

What a lovely coincidence. So you're a fan of Mark Lindsay too.

I still have his album 'Arizona' - courtesy of my late brother.

My favourite, other than your
'Sunday song' is of course 'Man from Houston' and 'Silver Bird".

It's just like you wrote: such songs make me think of 'disappearing dreams of yesterday."

Thank you for sharing your wistful thoughts.
