Clever Ole Me ! (CsH)

My kampung house

Hip! Hip! Hurray! My very first scan!!

This is the sitting room of 691, Pasir Panjang Road. On the right is my sister and brother-in-law with their first born. My mak has her back to the camera and my abah is to the left.

In the background can be seen (from left to right) the humungous Philips taperecorder, the Garrard record player and the Erres transitor radio. Absolute State of the Art.

And in the old days, during the 60s, we used to serve drinks in cups and saucers. Not just sloppy mugs.

As for the calendar, it's what we get for free from Kedai Hoe Huat, our kedai runcit (grocery shop).

As for that settee (on the right), I still have it right here , where I have my afternoon kip, as pensioners need to do so that they can learn to do more scams, ooops, scans.

Ms Hamid, this picture reminds me of those old malay movies. I wish I have some old pictures of home. When we came here - it was only with one suitcase with plans to return. 29 years later, we are still here and old pictures being eaten by anai-anai.

You never know - I'd like to think if it was, I would be Saloma with the "body guitar"
Never mind about the 29 years in England. It's what you do with it that matters. "Anak dagang di negri orang, pandai-pandai membawa diri."

In the sixties, I see our house in Yan, kedah, one of those goveremnt quarters. And we a radio that Pak put so high up so we couldnt touch and Makwould tune in to listen to Kebun Pak Awang an sandiwara radio.

When we bought the TV set, mak lovingly crochetted a piece of cover to place over it.

Ya, anak dagang mestilah pandi membawa diri -kalau tidak entah apa yang nak jadi. Hmm dah jadi pantun pulak.

Yes, I remember those calendars with sexy chinese women in their cheongsam posing next to racehorses. I think a few ears ago some shops were giving ou those kind of calendars again.

and we had paraffin lights that had to be pumped before maghrib.

Hey---I remember that cabinet. Made that with Abah. It had a massive centre speaker (Goodmans -12" for the base ) and a pair some unknown speaker on the two sides. I remember that the side could be opend to reveal a triangular compartment where the two side-speakers were.
And oh that lovingly damn Garrad automatic turn-table. On a bad day, you can never get to play a record without trying it a million times because each time the record dropped from the spindle, the damn arm would raise itself , and slowly drop back to its resting place ---without playing the record. I remember I use to manhandle it quite a bit so that it would play the record --- whenver Abah wasn't around.......sorry 'Bah....

...oh...and that Philips tape recorder---it weighs a few tons---probably equivalent to the weight of a Kancil ...heheh. That Eres radio---it had about 5 selection buttons or so for you to select the wave band and the aux facilities. But later , depressing the button would not keep it down and you really had to press them real hard. ....almost 'punching' it with your fingers. And it was so difficult to get a station---but --at that time, those were the bestest...

That's a very nostalgic pic, now immortalised forever in blogland! I am amazed you still have that sofa ... has it been travelling with you?

I love old pics ... when my grandma passed away, those were the things I looked for ... tak dapat harta lain pun tak apa, dapat simpan gambar-gambar lama dah cukup.
