I knew that one day it would come to this .........

Our car  after the accident on 26 Sept

On Monday 26 September  the spouse was driving to Tung Shin Hospital for his hip-replacement surgery.  We were on the main road at Jalan Jelatek maneuvering our way through the usual morning traffic jam when we heard a loud bang.  A car was coming from a minor road,  driven by a female Malay SYT ( sweet young thing) who had misjudged her sneaky attempt to 'celuk' into Jalan Jelatek and hit our car instead.

As I was the closest to her car, I could see this female Malay SYT gesticulating angrily at us from inside her car.  I signalled to her to stop a short distance away and both cars moved  ahead to park next to the kerb at Jalan Jelatek.
Now,  accidents happen and we all, young and old, male and female, Malay, Chinese, Indian and  also 'orang putih'  should be able to deal with the situation in a civilized manner. It's only a car, for heaven's sake.  There are no bad cars, only bad drivers with nasty attitudes.

We stepped out of our car and  the female Malay SYT driver walked towards us in a huff declaring in English,  "Why you do not stop?"  (quoted in verbatim)

The bloody cheek I thought!  She was the one who should stop, coming from a side road!  The spouse was livid when he heard this - and he was on his way to the Hospital for an operation!!

This was my retort in Malay,   "Mengapa  kurang ajar?  Siapa yang salah? Siapa yang cuba celuk? Siapa yang langgar siapa?  Tak lulus Highway Code kah?

She was taken aback because she did not expect me to tell her off in Malay.  And I was getting more and more concerned about the effect of this accident and the female Malay SYT's   insolence on Iain's stress level - he was due for a major operation in five hours' time!!

When I asked for her details, she resorted to the usual weapon of tears and said she would speak to her father.  To cut a long story short, her father called me and in a roundabout way asked that I make no police report and that he would pay for the repair.

When I made this posting on 12 November 2009, "Beautiful Baby Driving a Car" ,
http://anaksihamid.blogspot.com/2009/11/beautiful-baby-driving-car.html
I did not expect to experience the full impact and reality of the female Malay SYT's stupid driving and arrogance.  We have had minor and bad  skirmishes on the road in England but these kapirs   never displayed such crassness and irresponsibility.

For the rest of the journey to the Hospital we kept each other calm and yesterday, Syukur Alhamdulillah, we got home safe and sound.  Iain's operation was a success and for the next few weeks the cobalt-titanium man will spend his days adjusting to the new hip.  Hip, hip, hurray!

Here he is, showing off  to his  'nieces' like Lely, Oi Bek, Rohaya, Irene and Rukhsana and 'nephews' like Jai, Din and Yuwrajh to assure them  that he can still rock, sans Zimmer frame.  Sigh......!!!!

Finally, heaps of thanks for all the doa and prayers and good wishes from friends and relatives.

Oh dear, so sorry I saw this post a bit late. I hope Abg Iain is feeling much better now. Missed you guys at "our" usual bump-into-each-other place!

Get well soon and take care!

Pasquale said...

Please include us in your welcoming celebration for Iron hip Iain and please let me know I would also like to visit you both again and to also listen to my favorite Gerry and the Pacemakers! Cheers

Thank you MA,

Yes, he's much better and recuperating at home. We don't go to the same tosay place where we met up with you.

We have found another place, moderately better, but because of Iain's painful condition we have not been too active, tosay-wise.

In six weeks' time, insyaAllah the dynamic duo will be on the road again, as pedestrians!

anak si-hamid said...

Pasquale, oh Pasquale,

What welcoming celebration? We are having a rock n roll do and it's obligatory for guests to put on their tight blue jeans, blue suede shoes and the appropriate coiffure.

Come to think of it, let's forget the rocking and rolling and just sit down and spin the vinyls.

Of course you will be on that list of dodos.

And thank you.

Now Oi Bek,

Stop encouraging him - he may just decide to buy that snappy outfit from Tung Shin and start parading it in KL.

I have to live with him, you know!

Hope you did a good job in Mumbai, welcome home.

Alhamdulillah, accident and surgery wise!

anak si-hamid said...

Thank you ph,

Why do you bother with numbers? You have never ever won a cent!

Just belanja us the curry puffs and forget about stabbings (tikam)

anak si-hamid said...

Thank you ulat,

He also has a gorgeous titanium-cobalt hip and 10 inch scar!

anak si-hamid said...

BaitiBadarudin,

You're a tower of strength and comfort.
Thank you.

Ms Hamid,
Please make police report.
Just think, how will you get compensation if they play you out and there is no police report to prove that an accident had occured and it was HER fault? It will also teach her a valuable lesson.

Rockybru said...

Ms Hamid, don't listen to Bek. Do not lodge a police report. Our cops have so much to do already. Kesian the SYT. :-) She probably doesn't have a driving license!

I remember driving a Singapore-plate car in Pahang and somewhere in Terengganu without a driving license not so long ago!

anak si-hamid said...

Listening to bek and bru I wish I could hide my head in the sand.

And "who the hell do you think you are?" to give me such rotten advice? Remember the earful of scolding you got from me when Miss Khor cried and complained to me about you horrible lot?

As for bru - shame on you, not because you had no license, but driving a Singapore car? tsk tsk!

oh dear.. am so sorry to hear of this, ash. kurang ajar punya budak. am sorry too i've been out of the loop for a while. hope Iain is feeling okay now.. would like to visit soon..

Uncle Iain look so stylo-mylo in that pose and that hospital outfit!

Ms Hamid, don't listen to Din. Lodge a police report like Bek said about the accident and that stupid driver. Don't like female drivers especially the young ones who think they so clever. Don't give chance!

WELCOME HOME IRON MAN !!

MUS

anak si-hamid said...

Thank you Kama At-Tarawis,

Dear girl, I know you've been 'loopified' and for a wonderful cause.

Right now I'm playing many roles like Matron(not nurse), housekeeper, chauffeur, cats' chef and feeder, social secretary and Mrs Do-It -All. You never realise how useful the spouse is until he gets out of commission.

Anyway, give me a couple of days in advance if you're planning a visit.

ph said...

Hot Legs, you behave yourself !! Just because she's a SYT you kesian her, mana boleh ?

Miss Hamid, don't kasi chance, shred the SYT to pieces !

anak si-hamid said...

To another of JSS's horrible lot,

You just love to see us in battle mode, right?

Stand on the chair and face the wall!

anak si-hamid said...

Iron Man says thank you Mus.

AsH says thank you for the acronym SOT - nice! Yes indeed, they also terrorise the roads.
After all, they are the ones who bred the SYT.

The Pumkiner said...

I experienced exactly the same thing at Jalan Dang Wangi years ago!

However, the SYT didn't ask why I did not stop but straight away just blurted - "Apa pasal Encik tak bagi jalan?"

It did not occur to the brainless SYT that it was my right of way. the traffic was heavy and stopping my car would not be something expected by the cars at my rear. Why should I risk getting my car rear ended ?

I could have easily forgiven the girl - as they say, shit happens.

But her remark really made my blood boiled.

Wan Sharif said...

You never realise how useful the spouse is until he gets out of commission.. I know I can always learn something from the Cik Gu..
Iaian looks good and strong in hi recuperation...
May you be blessed with patience and may the spouse be cepat pulih ..

anak si-hamid said...

ph,

Why don't you take a day trip to KL and give Hotlegs a good kick on the shins?

After that stand on the chair and face the wall - 'cari pa-sair saja"

anak si-hamid said...

Thank you Pumkiner,

Glad to meet another victim of KL's aggressive SYTs.

What can one do? All this tata-tertib and sopan santun and berbudi bahasa is a farce and only applicable to tourists and the local hotshots.

You cannot include courtesy as a requirement for getting the driving license because I now realise that these drivers have no license at all!!! Some are not covered by insurance and most do not have valid road tax!!!

Malaysia Boleh! or Malaysians Bahalol (not all, though)

anak si-hamid said...

Thank you Wan Sharif for the kind thoughts and good wishes.

Iain was lucky. The staff at Tung Shin, from the cleaning ladies to the nurses and the Specialist Dr Low were absolutely top-notch.

If you want to see the concept of One Malaysia in practice - go to Tung Shin Hospital

The Pumkiner said...

ASH,

The trouble with people these days - they are quick to shift blame to others. Somebody or something must have been preaching to them that what ever happens, do not admit any mistakes and just blame others.

To tell you the truth, when the incident happened, I wasn't angry at all. You tend to expect some collisions to occur when driving in the city.

What can be done? I think its education and upbringing. In all probabilities, the SYT was mimicking her parents.

Youngsters these days go to Universities but did they did not get themselves educated.

To all those who have given me their prayers and best wishes: Thank you very much! It has helped me a lot in the last week or so - just as AsH's loving presence and hard work (and cooking) have done. FYI, she is now in the kitchen; I am sitting upstairs in the bay window feeling very blessed!
Iain.

anak si-hamid said...

Pumkiner,

You have hit several nails on the head - you're a star!

1. Despite a tertiary education, our graduates and post-graduates (again not all) remain uneducated. They're just well instructed to do a particular task, no more. They cannot relate or connect their 'learnings, and their elevated status in society with the act of being civil and gracious.
2. It's the new culture - to blame others, put the onus on the other person, and you turn out unable and unwilling to take responsibility. It's the mantra of the corporate culture isn't it? The best form of defence is to attack - wear down your opponent by making the first blow.
3. Certainly parents take the ultimate responsibility. For their children to be 'alim' they must set the example. If the parents behave like hooligans on the road, the children will do the same.
It all depends on how you classify and catalogue 'dosa' and 'pahala'. I suppose driving sensibly on the road, and upholding the Highway Code does not allocate you much credit for entry to heaven!!!

anak si-hamid said...

Hello Iain, me duck.

Aaaahh, what a sweet surprise from upstairs.

Keep up the compliments and I might even cook roast chicken, roast potatoes and lemon layer pudding for the next dinner date.

My brother in law, a slight man, about 48kg and about 5ft tall. Mild mannered, religious and respectful. Talks with a soft voice and smile readily. But he becomes monster once he is behind the steering wheel. He will curse unnecessarily, speed abruptly cut in dangerously to show his "displeasure" of any car that overtakes him, or cuts into his lane.

I think its just not the discipline or knowledge of the driver, nor the poluce. Its also the new culture.

Dear Anon Oct 4, 10.44am

I have taken the liberty of putting your very interesting comment on this posting.

Some people do turn into nasty Mr/Mrs/Ms Hydes when they get behind the wheels of a car.

Is this a case of a new culture or simply one of "Kera di beri Bunga"?

Konon2 menangis the SYT! Sudah malu so action menangis lah! Better make police report MH as Bek suggested, make her pay for everything. As for Uncle Iain, wishing you a speedy recovery!
MH, you look after yourself too ok?
Kalau penat....rehat!!!

My dear Roy,

Thank you for your kind wishes.

I'm afraid in Malaysia, the game is played differently - takes a lot of getting used to - must be sabear (as maknyonya would put it).

You take care.

My dear Mekyam,

That's very touching. And thank you too for wishing the C-T hip man well.
I think I shall set him up for another operation - to re-align the stubborn streak. But look who's talking!

Take care.
